Introduction to Japan Prestressed Concrete Institution
Message from President Shimomura
Objective
The Japan Prestressed Concrete Institute (JPCI) is the only academic organization related to prestressed concrete (PC) in Japan, and was founded in 1958 as the Japan Prestressed Concrete Engineering Association. Today, many infrastructures such as bridges, buildings, and tanks and so on are constructed using PC structures, and PC structures and related technologies have become indispensable to modern society.
JPCI aims to contribute to the safety, security and development of society through the advancement of science and technology related to PC structures and their dissemination.
To achieve this goal, we are doing various activities which are publication of the journal “Prestressed Concrete”, publication of books such as various technical standards and guidelines, holding annual PC symposiums and various seminars, and certification of engineer qualifications of “Prestressed Concrete Engineer” and “Concrete Structure Diagnostician”.
Along with the Japan Concrete Institute (JCI), JPCI is also a Japanese official member organization of fib (The International Federation for Structural Concrete), an international academic society on concrete structure, and is conducting the systematic international exchanges on the technology and the academics of PC and concrete structure.
We are committed to addressing the important issues surrounding modern PC, such as preparation for large-scale natural disasters, maintenance and management of existing structures, and response to decarbonization. We are also committed to communicating the appeal of PC to the general public, especially to the next generation, including students, in order to pass on PC technology, enhance its presence, and promote its sustainable development.

Outline of Activities
JPCI was established for the discussion and advancement of prestressed concrete engineering.
Our main activities are as follows:
Publication of JPCI Journal
JPCI publishes bi-monthly journal. The journal is a quality paper in the field of structural concrete. It gives the latest information in the field of prestressed concrete and structural concrete.
Other publications
JPCI publishes various books on prestressed concrete engineering, such as some standards for PC structures.
Symposium
JPCI holds annual symposium on developments in prestressed concrete. Lots of technical papers and technical reports are presented.
Working Committee
JPCI organizes the working committees to try to carry out various activities functionally.

JPCI Award
JPCI presents annual awards to eminent paper, structure, technical development and construction technology. The award system was founded in 1972 and the first award was released in 1973.
Certificate for Authorized Prestressed Concrete Engineer
JPCI certifies Prestressed Concrete Engineer to secure the quality of prestressed concrete structures and improve the technical ability of engineers concerned with prestressed concrete engineering.
It is widely recognized and required as the qualification of prestressed concrete structure construction for public works.
Certificate for Authorized Concrete Structural Diagnosis Engineer
JPCI certifies Prestressed Concrete Structure Diagnosis Engineer with wide knowledge for diagnosis and maintenance of concrete structures.
The wide activities of registered Concrete Structure Diagnosis Engineers are highly expected for the maintenance of concrete structures.
Education
JPCI holds annual technical lecture meeting and the other meetings when necessary.
